Bulldog South County Invitational 7-on-7 Tournament Rules
Field & Possession Rules
● The ball will be placed at the 40-yard line to begin each possession.
● Teams have the opportunity to earn two first downs before scoring:
○ First Down Marker #1: 25-yard line
○ First Down Marker #2: 10-yard line
● Once a team reaches the 10-yard line, they will have three (3) plays to score a
touchdown.
● Failure to score within the allotted plays results in a turnover on downs.
Quarterback & Passing Rules
● The quarterback has 4 seconds to throw the football.
● If the ball is not released before the completion of the count, the play is dead and results
in a loss of down.
● Only one forward pass is permitted per play.
Scoring
● Touchdowns are worth 6 points.
● Following a touchdown, the offense may:
○ Accept a free extra point (1 point), or
○ Attempt a 2-point conversion from the 10-yard line (one play).
● If the defense intercepts a pass on a 2-point conversion attempt and returns it, the
defense is awarded 2 points.
Interceptions
Intercepting team may choose 1 of 2 options:
Option A
● Interception = 5 points
● Defense stays on the field
Option B
● Interception = 3 points
● Possession changes to the intercepting team.
Player Down Rules
A player is considered down when:
● Tagged with one hand.
● The player falls to the ground.
● The player steps out of bounds.
Offensive Penalties
All offensive penalties result in a loss of down:
● False Start
● Offensive Holding
● Offensive Pass Interference
Defensive Penalties
Defensive penalties result in either an automatic first down or a replay of the down (Inside
the 10).
● Defensive Holding
● Defensive Pass Interference
● Illegal Contact
Sportsmanship & Conduct
This event is intended to provide a competitive, developmental environment.
Players and coaches are expected to maintain appropriate practice and competition tempo.
The following behaviors are prohibited:
● Unnecessary roughness
● Excessive contact
● Taunting
● Unsportsmanlike conduct
● Disrespect toward officials, coaches, or opponents
Discipline Policy
1. First offense: Warning
2. Second offense: Penalty
3. Third offense: Removal from the game
Any additional misconduct may result in removal from the tournament.
We trust that coaches will manage their athletes appropriately and help maintain a positive
competitive environment.
Pool Play Overtime
If a pool play game ends in a tie:
● Each team receives one offensive play from the 40-yard line.
● The team that gains the most yards wins.
● If still tied, the game will remain a tie.
● Playoff Overtime
If a playoff game ends in a tie:
● Each team receives a possession inside the 10-yard line.
● Teams are given two plays to score, following a college-style overtime format.
● Teams alternate possessions until a winner is determined.
Officials’ Authority
Tournament officials and site administrators retain final authority on:
● Rule interpretations
● Sportsmanship issues
● Schedule adjustments
● Player and coach eligibility for continued participation
All decisions made by tournament officials are final.
