Eligibility / Team Rosters
Entry fee is $40 per team.
HIGH SCHOOL ONLY: This is intended to be an open doubles tournament for high school students, with the goal of growing interest in high school pickleball. Every player must be enrolled in high school. To register, every player must submit evidence of a valid high school photo ID showing current enrollment in high school. Any players without proper documentation of high school enrollment will not be permitted to compete.
NON-ELITE PLAYERS ONLY: This is designed to be an amateur event and is not intended for elite-level players. Any player with a DUPR rating of 4.0 or higher will not be permitted to play. Tournament officials will spot check DUPR ratings either prior to the tournament or during the tournament.
Each team must consist of two players and can be coed or single-sex. No player can play for more than one team.
Dispute resolution: If any player or tournament official believes any given player is ineligible (and can provide documentation to that effect either before or during the tournament), the tournament officials will decide whether to disqualify said player. The ruling of tournament officials is final. Unfortunately, there can be no dispute resolutions after the tournament is concluded.
WAIVERS: Every Athlete must complete the registration waiver and the Calabasas Pickleball Club waiver. If an Athlete is under eighteen, then the waivers must be completed by a parent or legal guardian. The Calabasas Pickleball Club waiver is available here: https://addons.patchretention.com/doc/67f6e2a4ca61ceb105491ff9/669831
Game Play
Each team is advised to check in at the main desk at least 30 minutes prior to the start of their first scheduled match.
Each team will be assigned a group for round robin play and each group will be directed to a designated pickleball court prior to the scheduled start of their match. To maintain speed of play, each team should stay close to their assigned court for the duration of group play. If a team is more than 2 minutes late to the start of a match, they will be defaulted and the team that is present shall advance. If both teams are not present, then it will be a double disqualification and both teams will be eliminated.
The winner of rock-paper-scissors will have choice of serving first or receiving.
Each match will be a single game, with the winner being the first to reach 11 points (win by 1 or more). Only the final Championship match will be best of 3 games, with each game played to 11, win by 2.
The current score should be called out loudly prior to service by the server.
Game Procedure
Each team shall be responsible for line calls on their own respective side in the early rounds (although an observing referee can always overrule any call). If any disagreements, players can call over a referee to arbitrate and/or watch the match for a period of time. The referee’s decision in all matters is final. For certain matches later in the tournament, if a referee is available to adjudicate the entire match, the referee will make all line calls.
Unsportsmanlike conduct by a player will result in that team receiving a warning. After a second warning, the team will be ejected from the tournament.
After each match, scores must be promptly reported by both teams to tournament officials or the main tournament desk.
Tournament Seeding
Teams will be randomly assigned to groups. The top two teams from each group will advance to the elimination round based on W-L record within the group. In the event of ties, the tiebreaker will be determined based on the following criteria in order: 1. total wins, 2. head-to-head match up, 3. point differential, 4. virtual coin flip with the winner assigned by Zorts. Elimination round seedings will be random.
